As Late Shri Harilal Upadhyay (સ્વ. શ્રી હરિલાલ ઉપાધ્યાય)(22-January-1916 to 15-January-1994) was indeed a remarkable Gujarati Author.
His life and literary work is a great source of inspiration for the people who
want to explore the field of literature.
He started his voyage in the field of literature as a poet and then he have mastered many aspects of literature.
In order to document the turning points in his life to provide glimpses of his life, he wrote a semi-autobiography
titled યોગમંજરી which was published as a serial tale in Kismat (Kismet) magazine from June-1985.
Though you find this semi-autobiography too outsized to fit into the shoes of an author, a poet, a singer,
a playwright, a family man and many more roles he played exceptionally well
(and all major events, incidents happened in his lfe ).
People say, "a true biography should reveal all the true events in true manner".
There are certain events either sidelined or shaded or even cut short, in order keep the dignity of
the other people/event referred there intact. He did mention the names and places happily and respectfully
for those who played positive to him in any manner but on the other hand,
he have skipped the real names of the people who did contrary. So they never need to feel ill in any manner.
This is the exceptional quality.
He didn't modify any events but revealed all positives and shaded the negatives of the people surrounding him,
in order to make it an inspiration tale. He have provided the glimpses of his journey from a poor village boy
to the person with all his attributes, achievements, loss and the real human he was when he wrote it.
As we always say, one should get positives from anything he encountered with and
leave the negatives to grow in true manner. I think, Late Harilal Upadhyay did the same,
when writing this 28 episode tale.
You need to have guts to do that, more than the guts you need to show the real identity of those who played
somewhat negative with you and play with their dignity.
In Sanskrit there is a proverb, "Kshama Veerasya Bhooshanam", that's what he did and kudos to him for the same.
However these are my personal views about him and his autobiographical tale "YogManjari";
and the others have full right to disagree with me if they feel the same.
