Late Shri Harilal Upadhyay (સ્વ. શ્રી હરિલાલ ઉપાધ્યાય)(22-January-1916 to 15-January-1994) was a well known, famous and Great Gujarati Author of all time. He made the Gujarati Literature rich by writing more than 100 Gujarati Books.

The state of Gujarat is situated on the west coast of India. The language of the state is Gujarati. The people of Gujarat are spread all over the world & known as Gujarati People.

In this state, during a cold winter of 1916, a boy was born in a very small village named Mota Khijadiya in a brahmin family. Blessed with extraordinary intelligence, he emerged with a versatile personality in life and mastered the skills of Astrology, Cooking, Singing and most importantly in literature. His deep interest in folk tale(s) & culture and social values helped him a lot in his research work, which he presented later in his Historical Novels & Short Stories and poems in Gujarati as a Gujarati Author.

However, the journey from a village boy Hari to The Great Gujarati Author was never easy for Late Shri Harilal Upadhyay. He used to tell me that "Beta, Jyare Hu Mumbai Gayo, Tyare Mara Khissa Ma Char Rupiya Hata, Ane Same Mumbai Shaher (Kiddo, when I reached Mumbai, I had only 4 Indian Ruppes in my pocket to survive in the city)". But he has proved that "There is no option to smart hard work, having strong back up of Ethics, Knowledge, Talent and Will Power".

If we just take a brief look at the work Late Shri Harilal Upadhyay did in the field of Gujarati Sahitya (Gujarati Literature); the work can be classified into the following segments.

Apart from his incredible work in Gujarati Sahitya; Late Shri Harilal Upadhyay was a sweet, decent and down to earth personality. Most popularly known as Haribhai Kavi in his home town; he was a constant admirer of quality, culture & ethics. He strongly believed that the ethical and moral qualities (known as "Sanskar" in India) implanted in a child during his childhood, lives forever. So he made himself always available, whenever he was invited in programs of any educational institution. In fact, on the evening of 14th January, 1994 (the very previous day of his long good bye), he was there as the Chief Guest at the cultural program of "Smt. Maniben Nityakarm Sanskrit Pathshala - Paddhari", where he also had studied during his early childhood.
